Plastic surgery trends are constantly changing. Every week it seems as if another plastic surgery procedure surges in popularity. And this time it’s something that surprises even plastic surgeons- earlobe reduction surgery.
Earlobe reductions are nothing new, it’s a procedure that’s been around for a while but it has never been as popular as it is now. Both men and women are now looking closely at it.
It makes sense, especially for older men and women. Your ears and nose are the two body parts that continue to grow throughout your whole life. Usually, it’s unnoticeable, but combined with wearing heavy earrings and skin becoming less elastic, it can become more obvious as one age.
Longer or sagging earlobes can age someone by as much as 10 years. Plastic surgeons often recommend this simple procedure accompany face-lifts on older patients.
There are a few reasons it’s become so popular. One is that it’s relatively cheap and quick as far as plastic surgery procedures go. In fact, it’s so quick and easy it’s done as an outpatient procedure and takes as little as 20 minutes. Typically a small triangle of the earlobe is cut out and then the pieces are sewn together.
People also turn to this procedure if they have torn earlobes, a problem common in women that wear earrings or men with gauges.
This procedure is so popular it even made its way onto Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kris Jenner, the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner clan recently documented herself undergoing the procedure on the show. Plastic surgeons may see an even higher spike in popularity after the show airs.
